Sorry about doing Chapter 18 "The Life and Lies of Albus D" out of chronological order. I'll soon do Chapter 17 too and put links in each post to make matters clearer. Note: I know Elkin's site "Overanalyzing The Text" [archives from HPFGU]; jodel_from_aol's from Red Hen Publications collection of essays and Dan Hemmens from The Ferretbrain . To me, one of the more interesting points was the way in which some gen supporters defined canon as that which *was* on screen (meaning that which *they* saw on screen, of course :) Now, I've already written my response on Interpretive Communities and fandom-created Tropes, but long before we started using the politically correct narrative language of tropes, we just called it FANON. So today, I want to look at some of the more interesting articulations of canon, fanon, and what lies between, as well as how we can negotiate what actually constitutes fanon and whether... -[info]skelkin's Overanalyzing the text is a good way to waste time if you want to look at the Harry Potter books from a critical standpoint. -On the other end of the scale, motivational posters, done in Dungeons and Dragons style? -This is the pick of the litter. Project Gutenberg. Here you can download entire classical books, from Dr. Frankenstein to The Time Machine. My Bookmarks, make of them what you will. Will keep working on it! art... hermiones_desk: Alright, folks, here's the deal Alright, folks, here's the deal: I'm attempting to create a small subsite for HP fanfiction, in general. Yes, I know I'm probably clinically insane for wanting to do this, but I'm a firm believer in cross-posting and genre/pairing sites, as well as using bigger sites, like FictionAlley. So I'm imploring you all to give me links to any and all HP fanfiction sites that you know of. All of them. Well, actually, let me be more specific... swussian: The Swedish ModelDonKulick, professor i The Swedish Model Sex2006 Fandom To our pinko friends Welcome to the Harry Potter WarCry Links Archive. Here you will find a link to all things Potter persnickety_pru: List of HP Archives, etcetera Lots and lots of HP fanfiction out there, some crap and some of excellent quality. Caveat emptor. As usual, this list is very Snape-centric; I have yet to find much good het, but lots of lovely slash is available. Hope to add to this and update often, provided I can get around the links. Fourth try at posting this--the HTML is kicking my ass all over LJ. At least I'm learning something. . . . cressida0201: Thoughts about essays, and fashion meme I've been reading Harry Potter essays like crazy ever since Half-Blood Prince came out. In my searches, I found this collection of essays by "Elkins" of the Yahoo group "HP for Grownups." Actually they're posts to the group rather than essays. Though I disagree with a lot of what Elkins says, her essays are certainly thought-provoking. This page led me to subscribe to the group so I could read the archives (no time to participate, alas), but it also got me thinking. . . . linnpuzzle: Sleep is my arch-enemy. If you have anything to say to the person who posts this, say it to them. If you love them, tell them. If you hate them, tell them. Whatever you have to say to this person, even if it's something you're having trouble saying, if the person posts this entry, say it to them. You may never get a chance to again, so just do it. Replies are screened. Anon is perfectly okay, too. ETA: And just so this post won't be completely pointless, I give you the link to [info]skelkins(?)'s Overanalyzing the text (Harry Potter). She basically collected most of her posts from HPforgrownups, and it's fascinating stuff that's being discussed. Because I do so much of it, I am pretty picky about the quality of the websites I peruse and I thought that others might be able to benefit as well from the time I spend sorting through lousy sites looking for the good ones. I like my sites to be pretty and full of good content, but content always trumps appearence. My ideal site would also have a flair or spark that makes it unique (my sense of humor being what it is, this is often a healthy dose of sarcasm and a willingness to laugh at oneself)...
